Via her brand spankin' new MySpace bulletin: "My next record comes out in January... 24 covers to choose from... I'm mixing the record next week in Dallas with Stuart Sikes.

It's gonna be called 'Covers Record 2'. With so many covers I'm trying to decide if I should release 'Covers Record 2 Vol.2??' I'll be playing with the new band around towns before January."

Yay! Her first Covers album was beyond brilliant.

Cat Power Goes Postal!

No, she's not teaming up with The Postal Service, as much as we'd die to hear that collabo. No, instead she has teamed up with the MoMa for an exhibit involving massive film screens and 'urban life'. Read the full story below, via Pierceland Herald:

A new exhibit was unveiled Tuesday at the Museum of Modern Art — or rather on the Museum of Modern Art. Aitken created a series of five films centering around life in an urban environment.

The films, each about 15 to 20 minutes long, are played on seven of the large walls that make up MoMA‘s midtown Manhattan building. They focus on a businessman, played by Donald Sutherland , an office worker, played by Tilda Swinton , and a bike messenger, depicted by drummer Ryan Donowho. Brazilian musician and actor Seu Jorge plays an electrician who makes the advertising signs at Times Square glow, and Chan Marshall, who records music under the name Cat Power, stars as a postal worker.

"It‘s fun, fascinating and best of all free of charge," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said of the installation. The sculpture garden, normally closed this time of year, will remain open for the project, which is called "Sleepwalkers," museum officials said. "A project like this creates a very different dialogue with the public, who we hope will be inspired to think about art in relation to the city itself and to the larger urban experience," Lowry said.

The Covers Record: Classic Album #2

Oh, Cat Power. She gets a lot of shit, doesn't she? The bottom line is that she has a gorgeous unique voice and writes some of the most beautifully melancholic songs of the past few years. Ok, so, she isn't the best live artist. Please forgive her and move on. She is fantastic enough on record!

My personal favorite album would have to be The Covers Record. The Greatest is quite the triumph but it's her collection of covers that grabs you and steals you away from whatever else you had planned on doing. It demands your patience and in turn gains your admiration. Here's the opening track, you may have heard of it before, it's by some band called The Rolling Stones.
