Details are as follows: *Chris Garneau & Grant Worth present a new series of twenty one original Polaroids. The collaboration was inspired by a series of books concerned with fantasy, adventure, superhero decisions and second chances. Created with some of the last of Polaroid's instant film, the four stories (Choose Your Own Adventure) were shot in one month in special locations around the country. These photos are one of a kind collectibles that you can hold in your sweet little hand. Unfold the mystery of Fern Canyon, take a ride to Gardenia on the magic horse, celebrate your birthday forever or discover the 'Whorror' of Mary Higgins Clark. Each Polaroid is signed and titled, and will be specially packaged by Chris and Grant themselves.*

Chris Garneau @ Canal Room: An Invisible Charm

Over the course of the last 12 months, my adoration for Brooklyn native, Chris Garneau, has grown stronger & stronger with each passing day. The 1st time I caught his live show was in May of '07 (opening for Frog Eyes). A few days before Xmas, I was fortunate enough to see Chris again at Brooklyn's Southpaw. While both of those gigs were exceptional, last night's headlining slot at Canal Room was easily his most cohesive, pristine & noble to date.

The 50-minute set focused on 2007's debut LP, Music For Tourists, and selections from his forthcoming sophomore effort (due out sometime this fall). Chris usually performs with a handful of backing musicians but last night he was only supported by one (superb) cellist. The result was a delicate and balanced composite of keys and strings. Perhaps the track that benefited most from this arrangement would be (TMS favorite) 'Baby's Romance'. The fusion of a dimly lit stage, Chris's breathtaking vocals & a well-behaved crowd made the evening feel as close to a seance as anything I've encountered in quite some time. Europeans can witness the magic first hand on his forthcoming tour (all dates here).

Chris Garneau @ Southpaw: Love Zombie

With a somber yet whimsical, fervent yet delicate debut LP, it was an easy choice for me to place Chris Garneau's Music For Tourists amongst my fave records of the year (view the full list here). Whereas the last time I saw Chris, he focused on the aforementioned full-length, he chose to highlight his latest EP, C-Sides, at his Southpaw debut last evening.

Chris opened the show with a trio of solo tunes on his piano and squeezebox (see above photo) before accompanying his full band for the remainder of the set. About halfway through his performance, Chris brought out (overly buzz-worthy) Jenny Owen Youngs for a glorious collaboration. In keeping with the winter spirit, Chris treated us to his lone holiday track, 'It's Almost Christmas', to close the awe-inspiring set. He also assured us that he's currently working on a Hanukkah tune, which he plans to premiere by December of 2008. Mazel tov! All in all, the gig was immensely gorgeous and positively charming.
