Nick Drake's 'Moon' Finds Its Way To Paperback

Nick Drake's fan-run MySpace page reports: *In Pink Moon, Petrusich explores the otherwise untold story of how Nick Drake's 3rd and final album puttered and purred its way into the new millennium, nearly 28 years after its quiet release. In 2000, when Pink Moon's sheepish, astral musings were used in a Volkswagen Cabrio commercial, the album was propelled towards a kind of fame that it had never known upon its initial release. Like dog-eared, over-highlighted copies of On The Road, today Pink Moon gets passed around, shuffled from friend to friend, and whispered into pillows on rainy days. Petrusich shows that the use of Pink Moon by the Cabrio advertising team ushered in a new age of commercial potential for underground artists and alternative bands, while also serving to expose a new generation of listeners to an artist that might otherwise have remained largely unknown. The book includes interviews with producer Joe Boyd, string arranger Robert Kirby, and the marketing team behind the ad.*

Nick Drake Collection Of Rarities On The Way

Somehow, perhaps respectfully, in the 30+ years since Nick Drake's sudden passing, only a handful of posthumous LPs have been released. However, that will no longer hold true as of June 19th when the upcoming compilation, Family Tree, will finally see the light of day. Addtionally, a massive box set should also be in stores by Christmas time.

As for Family Tree, the extensive collection was put together by Drake's manager Cally, and features covers of tunes by Bob Dylan, Jackson C. Frank and Bert Jansch amongst a bevy of unreleased originals. The recordings are 'lo-fi... with audible bits of Drake speaking and conversing between tracks' (quote via Billboard). Sounds amazing and intimate. Full tracklist below.

Tracklisting: "Come in to the Garden" (version 1)/"They're Leaving Me Behind"/"Time Piece"/"Poor Mum," Molly Drake/"Winter Is Gone"/"All My Trials" with Gabrielle Drake/"Kegelstatt Trio"/"Strolling Down the Highway"/"Paddling in Rushmere"/"Cocaine Blues"/"Blossom"/"Been Smokin' Too Long"/"Black Mountain Blues"/"Tomorrow Is a Long Time"/"If You Leave Me"/"Here Come the Blues"/"Sketch 1"/"Blues Run the Game"/"My Baby So Sweet"/"Milk and Honey"/"Kimbie"/"Bird Flew By"/"Rain"/"Strange Meeting II"/"Day Is Done"/"Come in to the Garden" (version 2)/"Way to Blue"/"Do You Ever Remember?," Molly Drake
