The Lisps @ Union Hall: Stretch Out & Wait
Over the last eighteen months, I've made it a habit to catch The Lisps at least once every few weeks. You could imagine my initial dismay at the band's spring announcement declaring a brief pause while they began work on new material. Fast forward four months later and The Lisps have returned to Brooklyn's intimate hot spot to debut some of these aforementioned tracks (interspersed with selections from their brilliant debut LP, Country Doctor Museum). One particular highlight amongst the four new ditties performed last night was 'Try'. 'Try' is as quirky, kitschy & endearing as nearly everything in The Lisps' catalog. Another fantastic moment of the evening came in the closing chaos that was 'The Familiar Drunk', complete with Wye Oak joining in on the dazzling mayhem. The Lisps @ Joe's Pub: A Party Of Forbidden Thoughts
There's a very limited number of acts that I can endure seeing more than a handful of times within any given period. The Lisps fall directly into this noble bunch. Since January of 2007, I've witnessed the Brooklyn-based band's magnificent live show on nearly a dozen different occasions. I've watched them perform for a mere handful of zealous fans on a chilly winter's evening at Pianos & I've also observed the 4-piece wowing a sold-out crowd at Joe's Pub for their record release party (circa this past Saturday night). For 70 minutes, The Lisps validated their buzz-worthy stamp with exuberance & poise. Opening with the acoustic TMS favorite, 'I'm Sorry', and closing with their equally brilliant, 'Sidewalk Girls', The Lisps delivered their strongest and most cohesive gig to date. Expect '08 to bring the zany band universal adoration from coast to coast, mountain to mountain & river to river.

Review: The Lisps - Country Doctor Museum
Dedicated slutloyals may already realize that one of our most delicious finds of the past twelve months is Brooklyn's very own, Lisps. Their debut EP, The Vain The Modest & The Dead, had us instantly hooked with its unexpected fusion of quirkiness, subtlety & merriment. The band's first proper full-length, Country Doctor Museum, begins exactly where Vain left off. Each of the LP's thirteen tracks blur the boundaries between anti-folk, vaudeville & vintage country (circa late 1950s). Furthermore, the record's highly enjoyable vocal dialogs between Sammy Tunis & Cesar Alvarez provide a charming and unique balance. So after a very intense summer of recording, we Lisps have emerged from the woods with a brand new album! Thirteen tracks of Lispy madness! We finished mixing last night and are super excited. It won't be in the shrink wrap till october [november] but we've posted 3 new mp3s. Also we've set the the live recording of 'documents' as downloadable so grab it before it goes away. YES!!!!

It's a Lisps Kinda Weekend
I may not be able to say the word 'Lisps', but I sure as hell can sing along to them. Check them out in all their shenanigans this weekend.From The Lisps:
1. Saturday June 23rd we are playing at 9pm SHARP for the Deli Magazine Party at Galapagos. This corresponds with a little article about us that's coming out in their _______ issue (eventually), written by a very cute intern who is, naturally, now a huge Lisps fan. We are first on in the Back Room so come early!
2. Sunday June 24th, our future/fantasy girlfriend/bestie, Sara Schaefer, of "The DL" on aol.com (dl.aol.com) is hosting NAME THAT TUNE at Union Hall (www.unionhallny.com) in Park Slope. If you don't already want to marry and have babies with her, you will by evening's end. We are the special musical guest along with comedian Matt McCarthy so we'll be playing about 3 songs duo style.
