Ordinary Boys & Noisettes Headline Ben & Jerry's Festival
Oh yes. On July 28th and 29th, The Ordinary Boys, The Proclaimers, The Holloways, The Noisettes and more acts to be announced, will play for the Ben & Jerry's Festival, Sundae On The Common.The event will take place in London at Clapham Common and is expected to include 'a concoction of music, great activities and loads of free ice cream'.
Sounds amazing to me. Additional info on the Sundae Festival can be found on Ben & Jerry's official UK site.

The Noisettes @ Mercury Lounge: Breaking Free
"Shingai howls and soothes, gives you goose bumps and shoots soul into your main arteries." This is the desciption of Noisettes frontwoman, Shingai Shoniwa, that the band gives in their online bio. Those fifteen words couldn't be any more on target.
For forty-five minutes, The Noisettes injected fire into the packed house at Mercury Lounge yesterday evening. Highlighting most of their debut LP, What's The Time Mr. Wolf? (check out The Music Slut review of that album here), The Noisettes achieved a rare feat - amping up a stereotypically indifferent crowd into a total frenzy.
The energy last night reminded me of those very early Yeah Yeah Yeahs shows right around the time that their first EP was making the rounds.
It's hard to believe that all the raw power and intensity that emanates from The Noisettes core sound is attained with just 3 members. The trio's simple combination of guitar bass & drums somehow allows The Noisettes to outshine nearly all other buzzed-to-exhaustion post-punk bands this side of their fifteen minutes.
The band will embark on a summer tour around North America with Bloc Party. Check out all those dates and learn more about The Noisettes over at the band's MySpace page.

Review: The Noisettes - What's The Time Mr. Wolf?
The Noisettes are rapidly becoming the next British buzz band, and with good reason. The band's soulful yet alarmingly hook laden tunes demand your full attention on the band's debut LP, What's The Time Mr. Wolf? The Lonon-based trio is probably most discussed, at this early point in their career, for frontwoman (and bassist) Shingai Shoniwa's unique vocal stylings.Often illustrated as the bastard child of Karen O and Billie Holiday (although I personally hear a tinge of PJ Harvey thrown in there as well), Shingai's singing voice is a breath of fresh air amongst the sea of male-fronted post-punkers all over your (and my) iTunes playlists. Internet critic, Music Emissions, went so far as to say that Shingai has "the widest and most commanding female range in this modern era." As far as the music itself is concerned, the heavy guitar riffs and the three-minute timestamp on the majority of Wolf, is particularly reminiscent of Music Slut faves - Sons & Daughters. Though the line-up is a rather conventional combination of guitar, bass and drums, there's something about this record that truly puts itself in its own league.
Take a listen to Wolf's second track below and judge for yourself. Our suggestion - play it LOUDLY.

Clearing Out Our Email
We get a lot of email over here. So much that we often read it and then before we can take a second look, it gets shoved to the back of the pile forgotten.
Case in point, an email about the band The You- a group from Pittsburgh whose debut album was produced by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse and Iron & Wine). I actually really liked the song we were sent but just never got around to posting it. Well today is my day to get around to things. You can download 'I'm going to kill myself' here.
Another singer to come across our inbox is Naama Hillman. She's a singer/songwriter with a new acoustic ep as a follow-up to her first cd, Living Room. There are no real stand-out tracks on the ep (which you can download for free on her site) but she does do a nice cover of 'Ring of Fire.' It's no Johnny Cash version, but it's nice all the same. Download it here.
Daytrotter just sat down for a session with Two Gallants. They perform 4 unreleased songs and they are all available for download, so that is worth checking out. Last week they had the French Kicks.
The New York Dolls just visited The Henry Rollins show on IFC and performed 'Lookin for a kiss'
The Noisettes have a new song called 'Scratch your name.' You can download it here, definitely worth it- this group is awesome.
And I was in yesterday's Newsday reviewing Rockstar Supernova. Check it out. I was in last week's paper talking about Stride gum, exciting I know, as well. Next up, I'll be reviewing Thom Yorke's new album and Union Hall in Park Slope.
