Very little can be said about Stephin Merritt that hasn't already been said. The man is surely one of the best songwriters of our generation. He is as strange as he is brilliant. His and the rest of the Fields' masterpiece is surely 69 Love Songs. From the opening riffs of 'Absolutely Cuckoo' to the morose and poignant 'Papa Was A Rodeo' (which highlights the second of three chapters within the 69), Stephin Merritt proves that his love-obsessed, chuckle-inducing and deliciously catchy tunes are in fact, no joke. Whether we are pretending we are bunny rabbits or declaring that we are the luckiest guys on the Lower East Side, we are with Stephin all the way from 0:01.
