First off, Saturday the 10th. It was our very own Matt's birthday, so to celebrate him and the crew headed off to the wilds of the Financial District to see Band of York at the Pussycat Lounge. The Pussycat Lounge is a great, intimate venue to see a show at but getting there is hell. I was lost for an embarrassingly large amount of time before finally figuring out that Greenwich street splits into three separate parts.
The only other time I've seen the group was at their premiere party in February. Since then, the group has really tightened in regards to both their performance and songs.
I think slowly the group is starting to gain some confidence in their abilities. Their songs are really good, catchy and fun and they should be confident. I found myself singing their tunes all night. I'll be excited to see them perform for us at the Delancey on the 30th. I think by then, their live show will be even better.
For me, the highlight of their performance was the premiere of the brand new song, 'Miss Modernage'. That's right kids, it's (sort of) about our very own madam of The Modern Age. Does she qualify as the first music blogger to have a song written about her? I've been promised that as soon as the band records the song, we'll be the first ones to have it.
Listen to three of Band of York's song over at their MySpace.
