What Do Jarvis Cocker and Beth Orton Have In Common?

Well, they weren't at the Radiohead shows this week (ha!) but seriously.. Jarvis, Beth and others will be featured on the soundtrack to the new biopic about Leonard Cohen.. more info below (thanks Billboard!)

U2, Rufus Wainwright, Nick Cave, Beth Orton, Jarvis Cocker and Antony are among the artists paying tribute to legendary singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen on the soundtrack to the new Cohen documentary "I'm Your Man." The film opens July 14 in U.S. theaters, while the soundtrack arrives July 25 via Verve Forecast.

The bulk of the performances here were captured at a January 2005 tribute concert for Cohen in Sydney, Australia, staged by industry vet Hal Willner. At the show, Wainwright belted out "Chelsea Hotel No. 2" and "Everybody Knows," while Cave tackled the classic "Suzanne" and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker reimagined "I Can't Forget."

U2's collaboration with Cohen, "Tower of Song," was recorded separately at the tiny club the Slipper Room on New York's Lower East Side. Interviews with a number of the musicians from the concerts are also interspersed in the film with conversations with Cohen.

"I couldn't make this film without including him because I really wanted these songs to sort of be chapters in his life and blend him into the film in that way," director Lian Lunson told the Hollywood Reporter. "It was the challenge of trying to make that work with a concert with all of these performers and to bring him into the picture, as well, and include this sort of collage, so to speak, of his life through his poetry and his artwork."
