Happy Monday everyone. The World Cup sadly ended yesterday. For the finale, I met friends at Zum Schnieder and drank two of their liter beers. Usually I couldn't afford such an extravagance, but someone there messed up the tivo and pressed paused earlier in the afternoon. Instead of just pressing play, they decided to change the channel to ABC and we all missed the Zidane penalty kick. To make up for it, there was free beer on the house for everyone who had been there since the beginning. All was forgotten when I started to eye the bottom of that second liter. I was rooting for Italy in during the match but on a whole during the cup, Italy and France were at the bottom of the list for me- even though I think Zidane is brilliant (though what was up with that headbutt at the end? That guy must have insulted his mother or something).
Update: It appears Materazzi may have called Zidane a terrorist according to a French newspaper. The BBC, however, speculates that he insulted his mother. Doesn't much matter though since the phenominal French player has won the Golden Ball! The Silver went to Cannavaro and the Bronze to Pirlo, both of Italy.
With the Cup done, I think that means I may have to start seriously looking for a job now (anyone out there want to hire me? Seriously)
Here's a little Monday pick-me-up from those crazy Art Brut cats. It's a live recording of 'Moving to LA' from Belgium. I haven't yet gotten my hands on the album, but Art Brut is one of my favourite groups around. For all those in NYC, make sure to catch them at the Siren Festival. Their live show is off the hook and Eddie Argos is one sexy cat.
