Although discussion was limited to the following topics: A-ha, Cole Porter, A-ha, being a young performer, A-ha, loving New York and learning English (and A-ha), Sondre Lerche put smiles on nearly all 300 fans in attendance for his show/discussion last night at B&N Union Square. He performed 3 stunning tracks off of Duper Sessions: 'Everybody's Rooting For You', 'Minor Detail' and 'I Wanna Call It Love'.
Alongside Air America host Katherine Lanpher, Sondre answered all the same questions he is always asked charismatically and honestly. Upon repeated requests, Katherine even got Sondre to belt out a scream (a la his next album, the David Bowie-influenced 'rock' album) which was much appreciated by all the 17 year old girls in the front two rows.
Also, at the Q&A was author Gary Shteyngart, who was a friggin' riot! His book about an overweight hairy Russian Jew named Misha in love with a hooker from The Bronx (think about that one for a second) had the crowd in an uproar. Ok, the great majority of us at least.
Ha, what a great way to spend a Wednesday evening.
