David Aaron is definitely still in the raw stages of his career. It was amazing to see this young guy come bumbling into CBBGs with a guitar on his back, 5 minutes late, and get up there with no setlist and just go for it. His talent was so palpable, his tunes so catchy and his stage presence so likeable that I just thought, "give this guy a little direction and you'll all be singing along to 'Genuine' or 'Just an Ex' on z100 in a year." I know you indie kids out there just collectively said "Is this suppose to make me like him?" but, honestly, yes. He is one of those rare talents that can write a song that is so original and in tune with the human spirit that it can't help but become a top 10 hit. You have to appreciate that. Not to mention, he's a REALLY nice guy.
His songs are a combination of pop, soul, country-rock and something in there that reminded me of the Beastie Boys- something beyond the Brooklyn connection. You can download a whole slew of David's mp3's on his site and stream his music and check his tour dates on his MySpace. On August 31st he will be at the Alphabet Lounge at 10pm for all us NYC kids.
