Well, in between all this music slut-related-party type stuff (kicking myself for living in Scotland... when are they going to build a bridge between Glasgow and New York? Seriously, I'll lay the first brick myself), here's something that I should have written ages ago.*
Regular sluts will know that we're great fans of The Hourly Radio - a group who officially Kick Arse (there's a quote for their next record sleeve right there). Anyway, THR are labelmates of Californian rockers Bril, whose debut record Airless Alarm mixes shades of The Strokes and Muse with an awesome set of riffs and gorgeous production . Not quite the New Wave spectacular of THR, but Bril's sound ranges from the sweeping (and swooping) to power(drill) pop. Perhaps they wear their influences a little to obviously on their sleeve, but Airless Alarm is consistently excellent - so good, it's made it into my iTunes top played in the short time I've had it. I go through a lot of music - I am a music slut after all - but Airless Alarm has already proved itself a stayer. Here's hoping for a UK release sometime soon (and a tour, please).
Bril - Far Away
You can listen to tracks streaming on their webpage, and on their myspace page.
Oh, and talking of The Hourly Radio - watch their new video here.
*The reason I didn't? Moving house. And then discovering that the people who lived in the flat previously were TOTAL FUCKING SKANKS who never cleaned or washed up. Or opened windows. And who loved living in MINGING FUCKING DISGUSTING SHITE. Sorry. Bit of rage there, since I've lost two weeks at work, too... (and spent a fortune in cleaning products).
