Sigur Ros, Seaglopur EP/DVD Review
Whenever Sigur Ros releases something new, I kind of get re-obsessed with them. I won't lie. Since purchasing this EP/DVD last week, I've watched all the videos countless times on my DVD player and have been searching YouTube for everything and anything Sigur Ros like a mad person. This EP, as if you couldn't have guessed it, is stunning.
The CD features the title track (off of last year's Takk) and 3 B-sides. Those itching for more of Jonsi's wail might be slightly disappointed to find out that these new tracks are mostly instrumental (we do get a tinge of vocal from time to time however). The B-sides flow together perfectly and come at just the right time. I'm not the only one who needed a SR fix, am I?
The DVD features 3 of the latest music videos by the band. Sigur Ros afficianados will note that the band released a similar EP a few years back with the videos for 'Untitled #1 (Vaka)' and 'Svefn-g-englar' amongst others. What differs from those early videos and these newer videos is definitely the content. Slow motion is still a main feature of these videos and yearning is still a main theme but all three of these videos feature little kids or senior citizens. 'Glosoli' has a group of children flying (literally), 'Hoppipolla' features old people starting trouble (with cameos by Sigur Ros, themselves) and 'Saeglopur' tells the story of a young boy running from a predator underwater.
The official tracklisting goes as follows:
CD:
1. Sæglópur
2. Refur
3. Ó Fridur
4. Kafari
DVD:
1. Sæglópur
2. Glósóli
3. Hoppípolla
And because I love you, here's a video of 'Glosoli' performed live in Reykjavik (love the gloves, boys!):
