Exit Clov @ Mercury Lounge: Working Class Heroes

Upon the advice of Buddha (good friend and commenter extraordinaire), I headed over to The Mercury Lounge last night to check out DC's finest, Exit Clov, a band I've only heard about but never actually heard.

The quintet really blew me away. According to the band's MySpace page, they site the following bands under influences: metric, blondie, pulp, blur, moving units, arcade fire, stars, bartok & le tigre. Somehow, if you can believe it, they sort of sound like all of those bands melded together with a taste of The Rapture (perhaps it was the cowbell).

The set spanned the full range of their catalog, which consists mostly of EPs. The turnout for a Monday night was rather spectactular (more than half filled for a non-local, unsigned band, not bad!) and the band even closed the set with a great cover of 'Call Me'. Their record release party will be held at the Rock N Roll Hotel in DC, on October 20th. If you're in the neighborhood, I highly recommend your attendance!
