When taking a look at The Grates' biography, the following bands names are thrown around: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Ramones, Modest Mouse and Bis. I think that's pretty fair. The band, led by the lovely Alana Skyring (what a name, right? Almost as fantastic as Ana Matronic) create a sound as heavily influenced by late 70s-punk as by 90s alterna-rock, and it works. Somehow.
Their debut LP, Gravity Won't Get You High, is out now. Sadly we missed their last show at Pianos but we hear it was quite amazing. Ch-ch-check 'em out.
