According to templemount.org, The Silent Years are the 400 year gap between the old and new testament. According to Brooklyn Ski Club and I Rock I Roll, The Silent Years are an awesome band from Michigan. Though I don't know too much about the former, I happen to agree with the latter. The Silent Years do indeed, rock.
Part Nick Drake, Elliot Smith and the Shins, The Silent Years are a breath of fresh air in a stuffy room full of Clash wannabees and noisy, uninspired, dull rock. Their show at The Delancey during CMJ was fun and beautiful. Their members are endearing and emit warmth and happiness during the show- banging on a drum filled with fairy lights, clapping, laughing and kissing. Lead singer Josh even wove blue lights into his blazer. Seeing him the next day at a bar in the East Village, he was still wearing the blazer. Evidently the magic shown onstage isn't just reserved for performances.
Go check out the homemade puppet video for 'Someone to keep us warm.' I love this song. I love this video. I love how somewhere near the middle, the drums get fast and hard then suddenly stop. It is ethereal, atmospheric and just plain lovely.
