Has anybody been watching Celebrity Big Brother in Britain?
In case you were unaware, the show this year has been causing quite a scandal in the UK due to what appears to be racially motivated bullying of Indian film star, and Big Brother winner, Shilpa Shetty by former S Club 7 singer Jo O'Meara, Jade Goody ("star" of Big Brother 2002) and model Danielle Lloyd.
Now I personally have not been watching, though while in Britain I have been known to indulge, but it seems to me that the producers of Big Brother have most likely skewed the tape to make it appear as if Miss O'Meara holds a grudge against Indians. Nothing says ratings like good old hate mongering. The Duchess of York seems to agree and in a true WTF moment, even went so far as to call the television station to tell them "I know what it's like to be vilified. She is a broken girl," she said."She should be removed from the stocks." [via ContactMusic]
Now that Jade Goody though, she's just a NED who needs to be taught a lesson or two. Speaking of NEDs, the BBC World Service seems to think that the bullying on the show is a sign of even graver things in Britain- like increasing delinquency and ignorance of youth in the country which has been leading to a rise in hate crimes. Interesting.
