Alright, I admit it. I can't get enough of the new Of Montreal LP, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? I never was a huge fan of their earlier work but this new album grabs me for some reason, and I love it (like the rest of the music blogging world)!
Unfamiliar with Of Montreal and their latest opus? I'll let Wikipedia explain: Barnes (frontman/singer/etc) has described the album as a concept album, detailing his transformation from Kevin Barnes into Georgie Fruit. The transformation takes place during "The Past Is a Grotesque Animal," the 12-minute long "turning point" of the album. In addition, the album namechecks many things commonly associated with glam rock, such as drugs, art and fashion; "The Past Is a Grotesque Animal" specifically alludes to Edward Albee's play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Georges Bataille's novel Histoire de l'oeil.
The latest Of Montreal release is also credited as autobiographical, focusing on themes of suicide, depression and isolation... the album [is] a direct product of his troubled personal life during that period... (including but not limited to a divorce). You must get your hands on this one! Or at the very least, the opening track below!
