Hmmm... seems like it just might be true. This is actually the second rumbling I've heard about Sufjan Stevens selecting California for his next state-related project, following the massively successful and intriguing full-lengths about Illinois and Michigan, respectively. In a recent interview with labelmate Rafter, he hints that the two of them will be collaborating on 'a record about California'. I was really pulling for a NY record but maybe Suf feels like he's sung enough about the state after just recently collaborating with Rosie Thomas on her latest NY-centric LP (read our review of that album here!).
Is Sufjan trying to fool us? I guess only time will tell. I still feel strongly that in the end, he's going to pick another Midwestern state. Count me in for Iowa!
