The Fratellis @ Mercury Lounge: Crazy Times Down At Costello Music

Ba da ba ba da da... Let's be honest, most people's first thought when they think of The Fratellis is hands down, their iPod ad featuring 'Flathead'. I was so glad the band didn't save it for the end but rather got it out of the way by the fourth song into the show. Kudos. With so many overbuzzed British bands trying to break into the bigtime, it's a rare feat to come across a group that stands out and makes you want to shout out loud. The Fratellis are that anomaly.

Consisting of just three members, the Brits do a superb job at creating Britipop/garage-y 3-and-a-half-minute hooks that get stuck in your head for days (those Apple folks are no dummies). The colossal cheers of the evening arrived following the bands' UK singles 'Baby Fratelli' and 'Chelsea Dagger'.

In spite of the band claiming it had been their 'worst' show in quite some time, you would have never guessed it judging from all the glowing faces at Mercury Lounge last night. As an added treat, The Fratellis performed an impromptu Frank Sinatra cover of 'New York New York', as 250+ people sang along to every lyric. It was FABULOUS!

Don't believe us? Check out Chris MusicSnob's review of Thursday's show. Complete setlist below (minus the Frank cover).
