Grizzly Bear - He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)
Grizzly Bear made 'He Hit Me' a staple on their '07 winter tour's setlists. It quickly became a crowd favorite. The tune, originally recorded 45 years ago (damn) by The Crystals, was a Phil Spector-produced pop smash in '62. Well, almost a 'smash'.
The controversial track was often regarded as a 'protest song from the point of view of a woman' and consequently received little to no airplay due to its subject matter and its far-from-satirical take on spousal abuse. The song has been covered by artists ranging from Hole, The Motels and most recently by Grizzly Bear over the last twenty-five years. Take a listen to Grizzly Bear's tumultuous take on the tune below.
