Via Billboard: *As expected, Broken Social Scene principal, Kevin Drew, will release a solo album, "Spirit If...," Sept. 18 via Arts & Crafts. The set will be the first in a series of releases from group members under the heading "Broken Social Scene Presents."
Drew's project features songs he's recorded over the past two years with BSS contributors Ohad Benchetrit and Charles Spearin. "Sometimes it sounds like a young man's U2," Drew told Billboard.com last summer. "Right now, it's a pretty stereotypical recording that needs to get away from me. I might throw it out there to see if some people want to beat it up a bit." Although the track list and guest artist roster for "Spirit If..." has yet to be finalized, BSS member Feist told Billboard this spring that she contributed vocals to the album.
"We wrote some songs together too, but not for my record or his," she said. "We don't know what they're for. They're not for Broken Social Scene. They're kind of more sweet and quiet." BSS member Brendan Canning is at work on the second volume of Broken Social Scene Presents, which is due early next year. In the fall, Drew, Canning, Justin Peroff and other collaborators will tour together to perform music from their respective projects.
