Last night I visited Greenpoint's Matchless Bar for The Battering Room curated 'Knockout' party featuring Charles Bissell, better known as the frontman for indie heroes, The Wrens. Despite listening to The Wrens regularly over the last few years (thank you WOXY!), I've never seen the Jersey-based band perform live until last night. The set was, technically, a solo affair. However, with all of Charles' pedal layering, vocal sampling, and uncanny ability to mold together a full sound (with one lone electric guitar), I wasn't missing the other three Wrens nearly as much as I thought I would be.
Charles is not only a fantastic vocalist but he's surely, a gifted instrumentalist, as well. Learn more about The Wrens here on their official site. Check out two of my favorite Wrens tunes below. For all the Wrens enthusiasts amongst our dear slutloyals, Wikipedia is reporting that the band is 'currently being filmed for a documentary by the production company Little Quill.' Intriguing!
