The Undisputed Heavyweights, New York's favourite indie lounge act, kick off a three month residency at Joe's Pub tomorrow night.
The show tomorrow is sold out but there may still be a chance for some unreleased tickets at the boxoffice right before the boys go on. If my past experience seeing the three talented guys who make up the Heavyweights is any indication, heading down to Astor to see if you can get in is well worth the effort.
What makes this residency really special is that each night of the takeover features a really supurb opening act. Tonight is Ingrid Michaelson with her dreamy folk, pop music that is ever so reminiscent of Nelli McKay and next month's show features Wakey!Wakey!, whom I saw in the studio the day before their first live gig and even though they were suppose to be as green as the day is long, they were fresh, brilliant and full of good humour.
Believe me when I say that if there was ever a concert to impress a date with, it would be this. Order a few drinks, snuggle into the velvet couches and show off your choice of great, updated swing music. Just don't let her fall too much for the endearing Casey, Jeff and Wes, they'll only break her heart.
Shows start promptly at 9:30pm and cost $12 bucks. Make sure to pick-up a souvenir of the night by purchasing their live EP, Live From New York- appropriately recorded at a past Joe's Pub performance.
