M-S explains: *The third Manchester v Cancer gig was held at the MEN Arena on Saturday, February 23rd. At the end of the night, after the scheduled bands had played, for the finale, Badly Drawn Boy (Damon Gough) was joined on stage by Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order), Andy Rourke (The Smiths) & David Potts (Monaco) to perform four songs - the first of which was The Smiths' 'Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want'.*

Badly Drawn Boy Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Secret Gig

Damon opens up on his MySpace blog: *Hello everybody, this felt like as good a time as any to say hello to you all at last. The first and main reason is to let you all know I'm playing a 'secret' gig next week, Thursday 11th October at Sankeys new night 'The Aftershow'. There's no public awareness as to who plays at these nights, it's down to the artist to exclusively let you know, which is what I am doing now (I'm a week late though). Tickets only cost £5, and for that you get to see several bands on the night, including BEEP SEALS (ex Alfie) JIM NOIR, more and myself. Also many DJs including EMBRACE DJs Danny and Richard McNamara.

If you'd like to be there subscribe soon, or if you can't go let someone else know instead. Hope to see you there. Secondly, I like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to you all for your support over not only the last year, but the last 10 years too. September marked my 10th Anniversary as a recording artist, and my b-day this week psychologically marked the end of this current album's life cycle. Thanks to anyone who came to see myself and the band play this year. We've had some amazing and memorable shows and they never happen without a responsive audience, so thanks again if you were there. My intention is to release brand new material before the end of the year in the form of an EP/MINI LP, even if it's a collection of demos, I'm eager to move on creatively.

PS Next weeks show may be one of the last I play this year, so try and make it if you can. I'll keep you posted about anything else on the horizon.

LodeStar Festival Canceled!

NME's got the dirt: *This year's LodeStar festival has been cancelled today (August 1). The 6 Music sponsored event and was due to kick off on August 31 in Cambridgeshire and feature Badly Drawn Boy, Idlewild, The Bees, Maps and The Pigeon Detectives. Organiser Doug Durrant suggested that tickets sales were affected by "weather perception". He said: "Despite a tremendous amount of effort in marketing the festival, unfortunately we were battling against all the pictures and reports about the dreadful weather we've been having this year."

Speaking about the weather he said: "Well, ticket sales were fairly low, and totally reflective of the weather up until today (August 1). "The weather might have turned around but it's really come too late for LodeStar." However Durrant said he was focusing on 2008 explaining: "I think that when you've worked hard for two years to put on a fantastic festival for people and I doesn't happen, the only way to get over it is to look forward." Ticket holders are entitled to a full refund.*

This is the 2nd time in 10 days that Idlewild has fallen victim to a canceled festival date. If you recall, the much-buzzed Truck Festival was nixed due to weather just last week.

Badly Drawn Boy - Thunder Road

To say that BDB is a Bruce Springsteen fan would be a gross understatement - he happens to be the ultimate Boss zealot. So much so, in fact, that BDB ended his Born In The UK album (which in itself is a reference to Bruce's Born In The USA) with the lyric, "if we still don't have a plan, we'll listen to Thunder Road". He's performed the classic tune countless times over the course of his career from 2000 to present day. Take a listen below to a beautiful piano-driven rendition of the track. Bruce would be so proud.

Badly Drawn Boy Resecures A Place In Our Hearts

Oh Damon Gough, how we love you so. The Music Slut has never given up on Badly Drawn Boy. We saw him countless times during his tours for The Hour Of Bewilderbeast, About A Boy & Have You Fed The Fish?. One of us (ahem, me) even went to the Virgin Megastore in Union Square to meet the chap and get his John Hancock back in our college days. He wowed us yet again, most recently at his Hiro Ballroom gig back in October (review here). Now BDB has returned with a new clip for Born In The U.K.'s stunning ballad, 'Promises'. And we adore it. Damon, don't ever change.

Badly Drawn Boy Desperate To Work With Madge

Anybody remember his tune 'You Were Right' from Have You Fed The Fish? In it, he sings about 'turning Madonna down, calling it [his] best move'. Well, it doesn't seem like he'd ever be turning her down, should reality come knocking on his door.

Contact Music reports: BADLY DRAWN BOY star DAMON GOUGH is so keen to work with MADONNA he has already written a song for her... the 37-year-old is still desperate to record with the pop superstar. He says, "I'd like to work on collaborations with Madonna. She would be my first choice. I do have one song in particular I think would be perfect for her. (It's) one that didn't get released so it didn't have an official finished title. But the working name was IN TWO MINDS."

I think they'd make a perfect duet! I'm already anxious to hear it.

Oh, but it is. Badly Drawn Boy's 'Something To Talk About' (from the soundtrack to About A Boy) is the theme to the new Hummer commercial. I just saw it for myself with my own two eyes.

It's actually not as awful or out of place as you may think...

Via NME: Badly Drawn Boy is to auction off a car fitted with a piano.

The 1980 Triumph Dolomite, which featured in the video to 'Nothing's Going To Change Your Mind', has a piano in place of the engine and dashboard. However, the piano is just a prop and the car is not roadworthy due to its lack of a steering wheel or engine.

Badly Drawn Boy is auctioning the car on eBay in aid of Oxfam, as part of their Oxjam month-long music festival. The auction closes on October 15 at 7pm.
