R.E.M. Experiences Instrument Theft

Another day, another drama. Peter Buck's Rickenbacker 360 has sadly disappeared. The band's official spokesperson declares: *This instrument means a great deal to Peter and to R.E.M. It is our sincere hope that whoever is responsible for the loss, or whoever has information which can help recover the guitar, will come forward to receive a generous reward, no questions asked.* R.E.M. The National + Modest Mouse + REM = Summer Tour?

The National's frontman, Matt Berninger, spills the beans (of sorts) to Triple J: *"I don't know if we're allowed to say but I think we might be doing some shows with them when their new record comes out. So that'll be unbelievable for us. I think Modest Mouse are also going to be part of those shows too."*

Thanks for the tip, Baby!

Michael Stipe Models For Marc Jacobs

The resulting advertisement (to be featured in GQ & Details amongst countless other fashion publications this fall) can be viewed below. I dig the electric blue slacks, but I'm indecisive about Michael's hirsute chest. Check out a classic R.E.M. MP3 at bottom of post.

REM, Calexico + Others Sign Up For 'Rock The Net'

155 bands and 29 record labels are joining the Rock The Net campaign. The campaign will attempt to prevent US Internet service providers from charging a fee for some sites to load faster than others.

More from Rock The Net's web site: "Net Neutrality - the principle that preserves a free and open internet...and ensures that all users can access the content, or run the applications and devices of their choice. As musicians and entrepreneurs, we understand the importance of treating all websites equally - from the busiest online music store to the smallest blog. We urge Congress to support network neutrality."

If only somebody was rocking the net this morning when all the Bjork NYC presale tix got snagged up before the 'purchase' page could load properly. Sigh.

REM + Screaming Trees = Tuatara

Do we have high hopes for this one?

Via NME: REM guitarist Peter Buck and Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin have been working together on a project called Tuatara, and plan to release a new album in June. Initially formed to write and record music for film soundtracks, Tuatara have ended up being quite prolific and have gone on to record several full-length albums.

Following a four-year hiatus, the band reconvened to record 'East Of The Son', which is set to be released on June 12 in the US via Fast Horse Recordings. According to the band's spokesperson, the album has an experimental feel of 1960s rock and roll while incorporating Spanish and Arabic influences.

I LOVED Screaming Trees back in the early-90s. 'Nearly Lost You' was one of the best songs of '93 and you know it!
