When I was little, I once asked my parents why every song was about love. Why couldn't it be about fun things like 'Material girl' (which I actually thought was Cheerio Girl)? My dad replied, "One day, you'll know why." Well, I don't know if I do or not but what I do know is that now, I love a love song, especially rat pack, swing era love songs. As the lone singleton on this site, here is a sampling of some of my favourites, including the original and updated versions of 'Somethin' Stupid' and 'L-O-V-E.'

The 26-year-old has confessed her own music is a turn-off when she is having sex with husband Jordan Bratman. She prefers the melancholic tones of British band Radiohead. Eleni Mandell for Valentine's Day

Have you heard of Eleni Mandell? If not, listen up.

On February 6th, Mandell will release her new album, Miracle of Five, a beautiful cd inside and out.. Miracle is this LA musician's fifth album which Filter Magazine calls a "culmination of her vibrant oeuvre." With hearts decorating the cover, this album is a beautiful little Valentine's day gift.

Her voice reminds me of Nellie McKay and Nicole Atkins, very strong, very distinct. Her songs are 'Pink Moon', Nick Drake and Ella Fitzgerald. They are about finally giving up on the person you love and admitting you may like the player. The beginning of the album is where Eleni really shines while slowly, the songs wane.

Paste magazine did a great interview with her recently where Eleni talks all about the new album.
