Wino Inspired By 'The Wizard Of Oz' On LP3

Take it for what it's worth. Here's today's scoop from The Telegraph: *The troubled singer is working on the follow up to her Grammy award winning album, Back To Black, and has been inspired by the 1939 Judy Garland film. Along with the title theme, famous songs from the musical include 'Over The Rainbow', composed by Harold Arlen. Winehouse's new songs will reportedly include samples from the original tracks. In the surreal film, Dorothy is swept away to a magical land in a tornado and embarks on a quest to see the Wizard who can help her return home. Winehouse has been slow to create the third album because of her ongoing battles with drugs. Her 2006 album was influenced by 1960s soul music and the track 'Tears Dry On Their Own' uses a sample from 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. Frank, her first album, was a jazz tinged debut.* MP3 at bottom of post.

Morrissey Enraged By Forthcoming DVD

On Wednesday, we told you about Live At The Hollywood Bowl. Here's Mozzer's reaction to the film (via True To You): *The slapdash release of Morrissey's Live At The Hollywood Bowl is done by Warner without any consultation to me whatsoever, and is in breach of their terms as laid out by themselves in an agreement made for the film between Warner and my ex manager. Being Warner, predictably the sleeve art is appalling. It is the work of cash hounds, and I urge people NOT to buy it. I am not signed to Warner, and no royalties from this DVD will come to me. Please spend your money elsewhere. thank you, MORRISSEY.*

'Choke' Director Explains Radiohead's Participation

We can finally put this one to bed. Here's what Clark Gregg had to say about the usage of 'Reckoner' in the film's closing credits: *Like most people, I'm a huge Radiohead fan. The adaptation took me years to write so I wrote it first to Kid A, then Amnesiac and then Hail To The Thief. Later, I learned from Chuck Palahniuk that he had written the novel while listening to their song "Creep". In Rainbows came out while we were editing and I used almost every track in my early temp cuts of the movie. They all fit really well, but I particularly loved "Reckoner". The tension between Thom Yorke's keening vocals and Phil Selway's brilliant, driving drum track fit so perfectly that it worked almost like score. I was truly dreading the day when we'd have to take it out. Somehow ATO Pictures producer, Johnathan Dorfman, persuaded their manager to show the band some footage and to our shock they were generous enough to let us use the song. It's a monumental addition to the movie.*

The soundtrack is out on 9/23.

Film Review: 'What We Do Is Secret'

Last night I was fortunate enough to catch an advance screening of What We Do Is Secret, a forthcoming biopic centered around legendary LA based punk act, The Germs. The film stars Shane West & Bijou Phillips amongst others. While the acting was, at times, imperfect, the movie portrayed the late '70s scene and its star players beautifully. Additionally, Shane's vocals are shockingly, yet eerily similar to those of former frontman, Darby Crash. A highly enjoyable 90 minute feature. New Yorkers can catch a pseudo reunited version of The Germs, featuring SW, on 8/8 @ The Gramercy (the official date of the flick's NYC premiere).

Germs Biopic To Be Released In August

What We Do Is Secret "chronicles the rise of The Germs & their charismatic leader Darby Crash whose image, the contorted, screaming face and death grip on the microphone, has become an icon of the US punk movement & a rapt influence on bands since. Darby's cultivated punk attitude, resplendent with the hardcore, infamous on stage self mutilation antics and volatile energy that inspired the band's mesmerized followers to riot, ultimately banned The Germs from playing every venue in the greater Los Angeles area". What stars Shane West & Bijou Phillips amongst others.
