Coldplay @ MSG: Technicolor Shadows

Last night Jen & I were fortunate enough to catch the first ever American gig supporting Coldplay's spectacular senior release, Viva La Vida. While the evening's career spanning set served as a trial run for their upcoming international mega tour, the 80 minute show also hinted at what's in store for their stage presentation. Included in the latter group was ample butterfly shaped confetti, six large globes featuring live video & corresponding imagery, a U shaped walkway and a host of laser beaming lights. Music Slut pinnacles: a tender take on 'Trouble', a trio of forgotten yet recovered via ad lib lyrics during 'Fix You' & a phenomenal denouement showcasing 'Lovers In Japan'. Bjork, Klaxons & SantoGold @ MSG: Wanderlust

Though I had some slight reservations about seeing Icelandic goddess, Bjork, at (the 18,000+ capacity) Madison Square Garden, I'm happy to report that the show was just as magical, if not even more fantastic than her stunning United Palace gig this past May.

Decked out in a gold satin number, Bjork took to the stage around 10PM for a raucous version of Volta opener, 'Earth Intruders'. For the next ninety minutes, her majesty bounced back and forth between tracks from 1994's landmark LP, Post, and the entirety of her catalog up to present-day (see setlist below). Perhaps most exciting was hearing Antony duet with Bjork, yet again, for 'Dull Flame Of Desire'. His vocals were stronger, sweeter and brighter than the United Palace show. He undeniably won over the majority of the mega-venue. Other highlights include 'Unravel' (my personal favorite Bjork tune), 'I Miss You', and of course, Homogenic's much-loved, 'Joga'. Absolutely amazing.

Setlist: Earth Intruders. Hunter. Pagan Poetry. I See Who You Are. Unravel. Pleasure Is All Mine. Dull Flame Of Desire. Joga. Desired Constellation. Army Of Me. Innocence. I Miss You. Cover Me. Wanderlust. Hyperballad. Pluto... Oceania. Declare Independence.

For as much as I adore Klaxons, their MSG set (sadly) fell on the lackluster side of the tipping scale. Performing a bevy of tunes from the Mercury Prize-winning, Myths Of The Near Future, the Brits encountered/experienced a host of sound problems, uninterested attendees, and a general lack of enthusiasm. The show didn't hold a candle to the groundbreaking Studio B gig from earlier this year (review here). Here's hoping the 'magick' returns next month when the band headlines Webster Hall.

Setlist: Two Receivers. Atlantis To Interzone. Golden Skans. Gravity's Rainbow. As Above So Below. Magick. Isle Of Her. It's Not Over Yet.

Opening the festivities was relative newcomer and Brooklyn native, SantoGold. For her set, she brought out familiar faces in the form of Spank Rock & Diplo. Santo's sound can best be described as 'MIA-esque' with hints of early female hip-hop (a la MC Lyte). I'm still undecided on Santo. Muse Headlines MSG (With Cold War Kids) This August

Wow. Surely both bands' biggest US show to date.

I never thought I'd see the day where Muse would perform to 17,000 fans this side of the Atlantic. Kudos, guys! The show will go down August 6th for those of you anxious to throw it onto your Google calendars as soon as humanly possible.

Madonna @ MSG 7/3

Trying to review a Madonna show is a daunting task. The set was thrilling; all of Madison Square Garden was on its feet dancing and singing along, and Madonna called us mofos numerous times. So, basically, everything you'd expect.














The show wasn't as exciting as the 2004 Re-Invention tour but it still had some highlights. Before I list them let me just say that these shots were taken from Madonnalicious by the fans who shelled out $400 for a floor ticket next to Miss M. My cheapass was in section 330, row K. As you can imagine, my shots wouldn't have even come out. I coulda got an awesome shot of the big screen though...Anyway, highlights:
-Yes, Madonna started the show by coming out of a disco ball in all her glory. It was the epitome of cheese but it was kinda fantastic.
-'Sorry' was easily the best song of the night. It was intense and Madonna's vocals were dead-on.
-Everybody cheered and hollered as she busted into 'Like A Virgin' and then began to grind on a rotating carousel.














-Bitch still looks good for pushing 50.
-She did put on the ridiculous purple leotard just for 'Hung Up' and if she didn't wear it, I woulda been blabbing about it the whole way home.
-The white suit was a little Ellen Degeneres but we loved it anyway.

Radiohead @ MSG Theater - 6/14, Photos/Setlist/Review

Whoa! I am rather dumbfounded this morning as last night was incredible. The guys really mixed things up tonight, a much more up-tempo set ('A Wolf At The Door' v. last night's 'You And Whose Army?' for starters...). I never thought I'd get to hear 'Pyramid Song' live but that was fixed last night and really sounded amazing. I think the true winner last night had to be 'Myxomatosis'. Thom was about 4/5 feet from me and he was going totally insane!

Also getting the chance to hear 'Like Spinning Plates' was quite the thrill. All in all, fantastic fantastic fantastic!!!

Thom asked us how we still 'give a shit' about them. Thom, we will always give a shit about you. You and your cronies.
