Fran Healy Hearts Amateur YouTubers

Contact Music reports: *TRAVIS frontman FRAN HEALY encourages fans of the band to take pictures and film their concerts to post online, because it gives them another perspective of their act. The Scottish rocker has attacked American security guards who recently confiscated audio equipment from Travis fans at a U.S. gig - and has called on more devotees to capture their performances on stage. He says, "From a purely selfish view it helps me. I can go onto the internet and check out a song - at any given time you have 100 amateur cameramen taking a picture of your show from a variety of angles. "It's a great way of finding out what works and what doesn't. The quality may not be great, but you get the vibe."*

Travis Frontman Relives 'Cocky' Threat

Please disregard my awful pun and read this bizarre story, lifted from Contact Music:

*TRAVIS frontman FRAN HEALY was once threatened with a knife after refusing to sign a fan's penis. The Scottish rocker was confronted after a gig in New York in 2000.

He says, "It was outside the Plaza. It was a really great show. Then this guy outside says: 'Sign my d**k.' "And I said, 'What's your name?' and he said: 'Paul'.

"And I said 'There's too many letters in it'. I was cheeky.

"And he pulled a knife, which is daft. Then he ran into a bar and got arrested."*

Travis Recruits Demetri Martin For 'Selfish Jean'

I haven't seen this much symbolic t-shirt doffing since Michael Stipe's infamous MTV Music Awards acceptance speech from the early 90s. Below is the brand new clip for Travis' 'Selfish Jean'. It's a one-taker with comedian Demetri Martin as the star. In the clip, he removes over thirty t-shirts, each complete with an emotion, lyric or general inspiring message to accompany the transition of the tune. Genius.

Travis' new LP, The Boy With No Name, is in stores today (yesterday, for you UKers).

Travis - River

A Joni Mitchell cover from the band's 'Turn' single dating back to '99's The Man Who. The single also included The Scots' now infamous cover of Britney Spears' 'Baby One More Time' (perhaps to be featured in a future TWOB&R...).

The original tune can be found on Joni's breakthrough 1971 album, Blue. The track was writtten about a Christmastime breakup and has been covered endlessly over the last thirty-six years. Some artists that have tackled the song include (but are not limited to): Tori Amos, Rosanne Cash, Aimee Mann, Beth Orton & Rachael Yamagata. However, there have been very few male-vocalled 'River' attempts (in similar fashion to Bright Eyes' delivery of Feist's 'Mushaboom'), which makes the Travis cover ever the more unique.

Travis: MySpace Obsessed

Here's what the Scots recently told The Tripwire regarding MySpace, their back catalog and their overall excitement for all things internet-related.

Frontman, Fran Healy: "We've released 130 songs in A-sides, B-sides and album tracks since we started out. Now there's finally a place where we can put up four brand new tracks a week that people haven't heard before. We've been doing that for 12 weeks and we've still got hundreds of songs to put up. We might have to slow it down a bit, but we can pretty much go on indefinitely!"

Drummer, Neil Primrose: "The last time we released a record it was a different world. There was no YouTube, no MySpace, the internet was still finding its feet. Now it's incredibly exciting to learn about it and see how it works."

The Boy With No Name will be released next month. Check out the album's cover art here.
