They think it's all over...
Okay. Friends (and readers of Music Slut comments) will know that I am not a fan of the so-called "beautiful game"... when Jen was going lah-lah over the world cup earlier this year, I was resolutely watching Wimbledon and ignoring the 250 Italian schoolkids infesting my building and going bonkers over their world-cup progress. Football just isn't my bag, baby.
Mogwai, however, are. And the Scots post-Rockers have put together a stunning soundtrack to the bio-pic Zidane: A Twenty-First Century Portrait, which came out over here yesterday (buy it on import from Amazon.com).
I haven't seeen the film; and I would say that I wouldn't - but the soundtrack is a masterpiece, and I can already imagine lots of beautiful slo-mo replays and tense sporty moments... It's a real surprise that Mogwai haven't done sountracks before - their rhythmic intensity and trademark quiet/LOUD progression seem to lend themselves perfectly to psychological exploration and exposition. Zidane is a record that's no doubt worthy of the man: it's certainly Mogwai at the top of their game.
