ATTENTION all bands considering playing a show at an atypical venue. Check out The Greenhouse Gallery over on Greene St (b/w Broome and Spring)! While there's no website just yet for all your FAQs, I'll let you know that it's a great space in the heart of SoHo with fantastic pieces all long the perimeter of the room, approximately 1500/2000 square feet.
The set-up on Friday had the bands (Crimson Sweet and RiseNYC also played) right in the middle of the room. As you know from my Secret Machines obsession, I adore shows that are in-the-round. Band Of York opened the show around 9:30 to the healthiest crowd they've performed in front of, to date. The 8-song set highlighted staples ('Dynamite Alena' + 'I'm Your Man') as well as some new tunes, including 'Tear Me Down' which was probably the most well-received song of the night.
The band has lots in store for 2007. I suggest checking out their MySpace page and official site for more up-to-date info on one of my favorite local acts!
*E-mail us at themusicslut@gmail.com for more info about the space.
