WinterKids, welcome to NYC! The 5-piece played their second-ever gig in the Big Apple last night at Mercury Lounge (their first was this past Sunday at Niagara which we regrettably missed), and they were perfect!
Whereas the band's debut record, Memoirs, reminds me of modern and mid-90's Britpop, the group's live show is much more reminiscent of a classic English stage show. Well, at least the lead singer makes it feel that way.
I couldn't help but compare frontman James Snider to a young, unrefined Mick Jagger. With his precisely tousled hair, gyrating hips and riveting vocal stylings it was hard not to. Mick, combined with a less arrogant/more amiable version of Pelle from The Hives. Yeah, that sounds about right.
In spite of the short set - clocking in around 25 minutes - WinterKids somehow managed to further expand my admiration for the band. For goodness sake, take our word and check out one of our new favorite bands, WINTERKIDS!
Setlist: Adore/Hear Me Out/Tape It/Wonderland/All The Money/2 Nights 2 Days/Brainwashed Since 17
