Sufjan Stevens - Majesty Snowbird

Ahh, 'Majesty Snowbird' - how I adore you. This tune, which clocks in at 9+ minutes in length, was not only THE standout track of Sufjan's autumn tour last year, but the song's title also received the prestigious honor of acting as the namesake for the aforementioned trek. In fact, Suf (as photographed) wore the winged get-up at all scheduled shows and declared himself as 'The Majesty Snowbird' quite regularly during the stint. The song itself is simply epic. Starting off with effortless acoustics and gentle vocals, the song snowballs (pun intended) from pretty ditty to intense journey as a beautiful cacophony of sound takes over during the last few minutes of the tune. After seeing 'Majesty Snowbird' performed live, back in September at Town Hall, I'll attest to the fact that this song is a truly moving piece of work. One of Sufjan's finest moments, indeed. I'm keeping my fingers double crossed that it gets a proper recording sometime in the near future. In the meantime, check out the (shockingly high-quality) live version below.
