Camera Obscura, Magnetic Fields Contribute To Upcoming Book

Bitchfork is reporting that members of The Clientele, Quasi, Magnetic Fields, Camera Obscura and countless other indie heroes are contributing to 'the second volume of Penny-Ante, a book of art and literature created by rockers and artist-types.'

The first volume of Penny-Ante featured Devendra Banhart amongst dozens of other musicians.

The book will be available on June 12th in the US.

Details are still scant at this time, but we do have the cover for your viewing pleasure on the right side of this post. Dig it?

For some scattered info on the work, hop over to Penny-Ante's official site here.

Camera Obscura On GrEy's Antatomy?

Oh yes, according to their recent MySpace post:

We are very pleased to announce that If Looks Could Kill will be featured in Gray's Anatomy (airing tonight in the US (Thursday 12th October)). So if you are watching, see if you can hear it and have a wee game of spot the Obscura.

If Looks Could Kill is now also up on our myspace homepage for you to hear. We can also reveal that it will be the next single from the band, to be released in January.

We'll be at Silversun Pickups @ Bowery but let us know how it goes!

Camera Obscura @ Black Cat, 7/9: Scottish Gals Get Into The Groove

With support coming from local faves Georgie James (the band includes the former Q And Not U drummer), Camera Obscura played to a nearly packed house Sunday night at The Black Cat.

Highlighting almost all of their latest and greatest Let's Get Out Of This Country, the Scots got everybody's booties a-shakin' (yes, a-shakin!). Even the 6 foot 4 and 6 foot 7 guy in front of my posse! What the hell man? Stand in the back!

'Lloyd' and set-opener 'Come Back Margaret' were high points of the show for yours truly. Perhaps the fact that they are my most enjoyed tracks on the LP might have something to do with that.

All in all, I hate to label them as this... but I can't help it. For me it was very Delgados meets B&S (who apparently were brilliant at Merriweather on Friday night with BSS and Ted Leo, true?). This isn't a bad thing necessarily, just a little predicable. I guess it's in the Scottish blood. Of course, what kind of review would this be without the obligatory setlist:

come back margaret
i love my jean
teenager
false contender
dory previn
lloyd, i'm ready to be heartbroken
tears for affairs
if looks could kill
80's fan
let's get out of this country
country mile
modern girl
razzle dazzle rose
---
i need all the friends i can get
suspenders

BONUS MP3: 'Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken'
