Morrissey Fan Documentary In Production

Passions Just Like Mine features a series of intimate Q&As with Morrissey diehards from all around the world, as conducted by independent filmmaker, Kerri Koch. Here's a synopsis of the flic, via Urban Cowgirl Productions: *What causes people to become obsessed over someone they don’t know and have very little in common with? ‘Passions Just Like Mine’ will investigate this question. The film will be a feature length documentary that tells the story of how fan culture manifests itself. The stories will be told trough the eyes of the fans themselves. Audiences will be able to see first hand how obsessed these fans really are and how they became that way. We will follow these fans to Smiths tribute shows and Morrissey conventions as well as through neighborhoods and family homes. Sigur Ros Readies Tour Documentary

Entitled Heima, the upcoming Sigur Ros documentary will feature the band during all moments of their world tour for 2005's Takk. Icelandic newspaper, Morganbladid, has an exclusive trailer for the film which can be viewed here! Rumor has it that the DVD will also include an acoustic EP, Hvarf, although we don't have any confirmation on such news just yet. We'll surely keep you updated as we secure concrete deets. UPDATE: (via NME) *On the same day (November 5th) a compilation album, titled 'Hvarf-Heim', will also be released. Split into two sections, the first, 'Hvarf', features three unreleased tracks from the band's works, and a fourth, 'Von', which is a radically reworked track from the band's first album. Drummer Orri Pall Dýrason said: "We are having a clear out, really! One of the songs even dates back to 1994! We picked the ones we really like. It's not like a normal album. There are a lot of good songs on there, but they didn't fit when it came to putting the albums together." The tracklisting is:

'Heim' is made up of six acoustic versions of songs taken from Sigur Ros' four studio albums to date. The tracklisting is:

The Cure's 30th Anniversary Documentary On Its Way

Billboard is reporting that Robert Smith is hard at work on an upcoming DVD, to be released in '09, highlighting The Cure's journey from 1979 to present.

Included in the documentary will be "interviews with everybody who has ever been in the band, and everybody who has been an important part of the Cure", according to Robert Smith. Due to time constraints on the DVD release, The Cure plans to feature ample footage on their official site, as well.

Also in the works for The Cure over next 24 months: expanded versions of Cure classics such as Disintegration and Wish, a full North American tour (all dates here), and an as-yet-untitled multi-disc remix album.

DVD Review: Screaming Masterpiece

Regular readers of this site already realize that I have a strange fascination with all music stemming from Iceland. I've been a fan of Amiina, Sigur Ros, Bjork and Mum for as long as I can remember and have everything they've ever put to record displayed flamboyantly all over my iTunes library. When Screaming Masterpiece, a DVD highlighting the current state of the Icelandic music scene, arrived in my mailbox earlier this week, I was elated.

After watching the documentary, it became impossibly clear to me that one of the strongholds of the Icelandic music scene, that sets it apart from all others, is its strong sense of camaraderie. Whether it's the country's burgeoning punk, hip-hop or electronic circles, all bands love, respect and admire each other's work. As mutliple artists explain throughout the film, they are truly out to create music that they enjoy playing, because they don't anticipate a major record deal or mainstream radio attention. With a total population just over 300,000, it's rather mindblowing to think that so much powerful, unique and heartfelt music is coming out of such a (relatively) small country.

While the DVD does a fine job circumnavigating the entire scene, there is undoubtedly a focus on Iceland's most successful musician to date. Of course, I'm referring to Bjork. In addition to an in-depth interview with the star, there are two live videos from her visit to Brooklyn's Keyspan Park in 2003 highlighted on Screaming Masterpiece. 'Pluto' and 'All Is Full Of Love' are included in their full glory on the documentary, as is a stellar performance of 'Untitled #8' from Sigur Ros, dating back to that same glorious evening (I was there and can vouch that there was magic in that air that night).

In summary, the film is a must-have for both the musicologists and curious music aficionados amongst you. Even as someone, like myself, who dares to claim that he or she has a vast knowledge of Icelandic music, will honestly learn a great deal more about the scene after watching Screaming Masterpiece. Introducing The 'Common People' Documentary

If you haven't already heard/seen, Pulp's mega-classic 'Common People' got an hour's worth of BBC airtime late last year in documentary format. Everybody from Jarvis's mum, radio DJs, fans, and the man himself, Mr. Cocker took part in the feature discussing the international anthem.
