Keane Influenced By Dr. Dre On LP3

Keane's drummer, Richard Hughes, shares the following quote on the band's official site: "We're going to try and do something different with the next one. There's a lot of interesting stuff coming out of America that's... I mean, I've been listening to people like Dr. Dre for a long time.

I think '2001''s a ridiculously amazing record and its probably the most played thing on my iPod. I love the sparseness of that, and the last record was really dense, it was full of stuff. So maybe we'll try something that's as empty as possible. There's certainly elements of that that you could experiment with. You could try and be more minimal in your approach with instruments and try to get a bit more funk in there. We'll see! Or it might just be a rock album - you know, I don't know. But yeah, we're going to try and do something different."

Fflam Festival Canceled!

This is getting out of control!

Here's the official statement: *"It is with great regret that we confirm the cancellation of the Fflam Festival for 2007. After the initial postponement due to torrential weather conditions, we have made every possible effort to try and secure a new date for the festival this summer. Unfortunately, we cannot find a date that suits all parties and due to artist availability, we are not in a position to deliver the brilliant line-up of bands we always intended if we go ahead.

At this stage, we are left with no option but to cancel the festival for 2007 and put all our efforts into making it a huge success in 2008. We would like to thank all the people in the local community who have stuck by us and supported us throughout the past couple of months. For those who bought tickets, full refunds will be available from point of purchase."*

What a bummer. Manic Street Preachers, Keane & Placebo were just some of the acts to be included on the stellar bill. Download some tracks from the bands below.

Keane - With Or Without You

Say what you will (and I'm sure the haters amongst you slutloyals won't hesitate) but Keane's cover of U2's signature single, 'With Or Without You', is rather charming and performed quite beautifully.

Played during a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge session back in 2005, on the heels of Hopes + Fears rise to the top of the UK charts, Keane have deemed the track one of their favorite songs of all time. An MP3 of the one-off cover can be found below.

Groove Armada & Keane Headline Freedom Rocks

Uncut is reporting that the unlikely pair will be teaming up for 2-off shows this June (the 9th and 10th). Freedom Rocks, for those unfamiliar, commemorates the end of the slave trade in Britian. Other organizations involved this time around include Anti-Slavery International, Fight For Freedom Campaign & MOBO.

The gigs will take place in the fair trade city of Hull in East Park.

Festival organizer Dave Grindle has said: "We feel that the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in Britain deserves national and international recognition. As well putting the event together we are keen to play a part in developing awareness of Wilberforce's achievements and today's human rights issues. This will be an important celebration and will have a positive impact on the local community as Hull becomes the focus of this bi-centenary."

Keane's 'Private Info' Stolen!

Guess the stuff went somewhere only the burglars know....har har har. Hey, it's early!

Via ContactMusic: Burglars have made off with some private information about the rock band Keane, leaving the chart-topping group scared of future leaks. The band's offices in London were broken into, according to the Sun newspaper, and laptops were among items stolen.

Personal information, including phone numbers and addresses, are understood to be on the computers, which were taken from the band's public relations firm's Oxford Circus office on Monday night. Police are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made, leaving the band concerned about whose hands their information has ended up in.

"It's not yet known exactly what is missing but there was information about Keane held in the computer database," a friend of the band told the Sun. The robbery took the gloss off the release of Keane's latest single, Bad Dream, on Monday, which lead singer Tom Chaplin described at the V Festival last summer as the best song the band had ever written.

Keane bean

So, I'm not the biggest fan of Keane in the world; you can count me amongst the group that finds Hopes and Fears to be anaemic and, well, dull. That's not the unanimous opinion round here at The Music Slut, but I just thought that I'd throw it out there. I will admit, however, that they put on a pretty entertaining live show (as I learned after watching this recording of the band at Glastonbury). And having bought the latest single "Is it any wonder" for my better half, I have to admit that I was more impressed than nonplussed, given that they seem to have expanded their sound somewhat. Anyhoo, combined with the fantastic cover art they've put together for the latest record, Under the Iron Sea, means that Skye has officially deemed Keane not too lame to be featured.* Actually, I've generally found that Under the Iron Sea has a lot more oomph than Hopes and Fears, and certainly doesn't seem to be anywhere near as whiney.

Nothing in my Way (yousendit / megaupload)
Leaving So Soon (yousendit / megaupload)

You can also download these torrents of Keane from Pure Live Gigs, though you'll have to register/log in.

*although I'm still not going to admit that I might like any of their songs. "A Bad Dream" starts off like it's going to be awesome, but gets a bit lame about a minute in.
