On Wednesday, we told you about Live At The Hollywood Bowl. Here's Mozzer's reaction to the film (via True To You): *The slapdash release of Morrissey's Live At The Hollywood Bowl is done by Warner without any consultation to me whatsoever, and is in breach of their terms as laid out by themselves in an agreement made for the film between Warner and my ex manager. Being Warner, predictably the sleeve art is appalling. It is the work of cash hounds, and I urge people NOT to buy it. I am not signed to Warner, and no royalties from this DVD will come to me. Please spend your money elsewhere. thank you, MORRISSEY.*
Billboard reports: *Trail Of Dead is launching its own label, Richter Scale Records, in association with Universal Music Group's Justice Records. The band's next album is due in January 2009 and was co-produced by longtime collaborator Mike McCarthy and Chris "Frenchie" Smith. According to a spokesperson, Trail Of Dead was intent "on creating a more anthemic record" this time around.* MP3 at bottom.
NME claims: *Amy Winehouse is rumored to be leaving Island Records after her next album to start up her own label. Winehouse is keen to get into business with Alex Haines, who it is claimed she is dating. Winehouse would apparently like to sign her friends Remi Nicole and Tyler James and have control over her own finances.*
The Garbage frontwoman explains on her MySpace blog: *"I played some of the stuff to the record label not long ago and they described it as being very noir. At the time, I took the comment as being a huge compliment. That they liked the intensity of my material. But then I realized it wasn't intended as a compliment. But I'm 41, I'm a woman not a kid. I have no interest in making silly pop music and I don't want to wear a silly sexy outfit and sell myself short. I'm sure it will all get sorted out in the end. But I do think record companies, in general, have different ideas about how they promote women. In the end, it is down to each and every woman to fight to be treated as an individual. I just want to be who I am."*
Billboard reports: *The Dandy Warhols have partnered with World's Fair Group to launch their own label, Beat The World. A new album is expected out this year. The group was previously signed to Capitol, on which it released four studio albums. At first, The Dandys landed significant sync licenses for songs like "We Used To Be Friends" and "Boys Better," and their Capitol debut, 1997's The Dandy Warhols Come Down, has sold 103,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan; 2000 follow-up Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia has moved 164,000. But the streak was about to go south. "We started to get really frustrated with Capitol," says guitarist Peter Holmstrom. "Our records were recouping and making money for them because of all the licensing, but they weren't promoting us or paying attention." After its last album, 2005's Odditorium Or The Warlords Of Mars, moved only 38,000 units, Capitol dropped the band. "We were upset for about a week, and then we were overjoyed," Holmstrom says. A call to a Capitol rep for comment was not returned at press time.*
At Ease Web reports: *Radiohead’s former label seems determined to make some money from the band’s current activities. When Radiohead announced the release of their In Rainbows discbox in December, EMI quickly followed with the release of the band's 7 albums (6 studio, 1 live) as a box set. Now that the tour is coming up (North American dates are expected to be announced next week!), EMI has got another release up its sleeves - the long feared Greatest Hits LP.*
The (semi-reliable) Daily Star claims: *COLDPLAY is the next big-name act expected to join the mounting EMI exodus. The quartet’s upcoming fourth album could be their last proper studio effort for the struggling label, who has seen Sir Paul McCartney and Radiohead leave in the past year. Chris Martin & co. can fulfill their current five-album deal with EMI/Parlophone by issuing a Best Of collection in '09, thus making the act free agents. A source close to the band said: “There’s so much uncertainty in the record industry right now. The boys don’t necessarily need a label anymore. They aren’t even considering putting pen to paper on any type of new contract until they see what happens.”*
Here's an explanation, via Contact Music: *Country legend DOLLY PARTON will release her next album on her own label after landing a new deal to become the only signing to Dolly Records. The new company will be managed by the singer's longtime manager Danny Nozell. He claims the new album will be released in February (08) and it will be "the first mainstream country record Dolly has done in 17 years." 
The last time we checked in with Thursday, they were label-less and loving it, following a dispute with major label, Island, back in March. Now, four months later, the screamo originators are back on their toes, teaming up with Victory - their former (indie) label that released the band's stunning debut LP, Full Collapse back in '01. 
"We're partnering with MTV2, and the focus is going to be Wal-Marts, big box stores, red states, and TV advertising-- to really go beyond... We don't really expect indie rock stores to support this record. It's for the casual fan."
B-fork is reporting that The Gossip, Kill Rock Stars pride and joy, have signed to Columbia's new subdivision, Music With A Twist. For those unfamiliar with Music With A Twist, it will be the first 'major music label dedicated to LGBT artists'. For those familiar with Kill Rock Stars, this isn't the first time such fate has fallen on their shoulders (Elliott Smith & The Decemberists amongst others have signed to major labels after massive success through the indie).
Sans record label, that is. Brooklyn Vegan is the first to officially report what we've all been hearing for some time now, Capitol Records will be dropping employees and bands from the label, left, right and sideways.
I would have never guessed these two were buddy buddy but regardless, the two have just partnered to start up Masses Music, the record label. No word yet on what genre of artists the label will feature but Heath & Ben already have one musician who's signed on.

Yep, it's true. The band have just began work on their own label called Throne Of Blood. It will mostly feature vinyl releases of singles and remixes and will be maintained exclusively and entirely by The Rapture.
What a difference 13 months makes. If you recall, back in October of '05, Sony was distributing a 16-song promotional version of Nellie McKay's sophomore LP, Pretty Little Head, to all media for review. While the album was technically watermarked, the album was decoded and widely circulated around the web all the while garnering a shitload of attention.
