Explosions In The Sky To Open For Smashing Pumpkins

If you happen to be catching the reunited alterna-gods on their upcoming fall tour, I highly recommend getting there early to catch the brilliance that is Explosions In The Sky. The Texas-based post-rockers will join the bill for all shows beginning October 11th.

If you're headed out to one of the gigs between 9/24 and 10/9, you're stuck with The Bravery. Sorry.

Smashing Pumpkins To Drive Best Buy Employees Bonkers This July

Ok, so by now most of you have heard that The Smashing Pumpkins are reforming, have a new album out this year and plan on touring all over the world. Whatever your ambivalence/disinterest may be on the reunion, something tells me that you will surely react to the next bit of info.

Hate Something Beautiful is reporting that the new SP album will be released on 7/7/07 at 7:07 AM, precisely. July 7th happens to fall on a Saturday when all other US releases are sold on Tuesdays and UK releases on Mondays, respectively. Irritating, right? Not only that, but the 7:07 bit is just a little much for me. I'm a fan of gimmicks to some degree but I don't feel like all this hoopla is necessary. I surely hope it doesn't foreshadow a less than stellar comeback album. I loved The Smashing Pumpkins just as much as the next alt-rock loving teenager back in '95, but the 777 nonsense, I can definitely do without.

Billboard reports that The Smashing Pumpkins frontman will be working with a new manager for the next album. Irving Azoff, who regularly works with Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera!

According to a short post on its Web site, the reunited Smashing Pumpkins are recording their first album in seven years with producer Roy Thomas Baker, who is best known for his work with Queen but resurfaced last year to produce the sophomore album from the Darkness.

Beyond frontman Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, it is still unclear who else is involved in the new incarnation of the Pumpkins. The group is now being managed by Irving Azoff, who also works with Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and the Eagles.

Corgan stunned fans in June 2005 when he took out a full-page ad in the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times announcing his intentions to "renew and "revive" the Pumpkins, who split acrimoniously in 2000.

In 2004, he broke his silence about why the band dissolved, lashing out at guitarist James Iha and bassist D'Arcy Wretzky for walking away from an endeavor he described as "essentially my entire life... a dream I still believe in."
