The View: Wasted Little Musicians!
Oh no! This is where the Pete Doherty/View references must end! Seems like The View's frontman, Kyle Falconer, was found in possession of cocaine in August (when he was If you recall, just a few weeks back, The View was forced to cancel their upcoming headlining tour of the US due to visa issues.
It's a very bad month to be Scottish, underage, and have a top 10 album.

Noel Gallagher Has A Heart After All
Just in from NME: Noel Gallagher, Kasabian and The Who are among the acts confirmed for this year's series of London shows aimed at raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity. Oasis star Gallagher plays the first two nights (March 26/27), supported by The View and The Coral respectively. Kasabian play on March 29, while The Who, whose frontman Roger Daltrey organises the event, play on March 31. There will also be a night of comedy hosted by Russell Brand and 'The Mighty Boosh' star Noel Fielding on March 28, with more names due to be announced over the coming weeks. Announcing this year's line-up, Daltrey said: "Over the years these shows have really made a massive difference to the money available to build TCT units in NHS hospitals. They also give our teenagers the moral support to help fight this terrible disease".
The line-up for the 2007 shows so far is as follows:
-Noel Gallagher and The View plus special guests (March 26)
-Noel Gallagher and The Coral plus special guests (27)
-Comedy hosted by Russell Brand & Noel Fielding (The Goth Detectives) w/ special guests (28)

The View Top UK Album Charts (TGTBTQ At #2)!
The young Scots have the number one album this week with their debut release, Hats Off To The Buskers! Who saw this one coming?One year ago this week, Arctic Monkeys pulled off the same exact feat - although that debut broke all sorts of UK records, most importantly, the most albums sold in a week ever, period, done - The View barely beat out Damon Albarn's new project, The Good The Bad & The Queen for the top spot.

Weighing in on the Mika Debate
Granted, I haven't heard much (well alright, maybe just the single 'Grace Kelly') but so far, so good for this supposed Pop Idol reject.Mika's first single has bumped Britain's X-Factor winner, Leona Lewis, out of the number one slot. Leona's song (Kelly Clarkson's? Does Simon Cowell just get every other female winner on his shows to sing this song?) 'A Moment like this' spent 4 weeks as the number one song, amazing. Sidenote: The Music Slut's favourite group of wee Dundonians, The View, is number 3 on that chart with 'Same Jeans'- sweet.
I have a soft spot for anything a bit dancy, a bit glam, and right now, Mika seems to be feeding my Young Love, Scissor Sisters hang over with a perfectly spicy bloody mary of just that.
One question for Mika though, why the sexuality secrecy? Why would being proud of who you are, no matter whom you fancy, make a difference in the quality of your music? Be gay, be straight, be a transgendered monkey for all I care, just get me on the dance floor.
Brooklyn Vegan didn't take to Mika, but Arjan Writes sure did- check them out.

The View @ Mercury Lounge (First Night): Ready, Set, Go!
I just got back from The View's first-ever US gig, down on Houston Street at The Merc. The band played a solid set, even though it only lasted 30 quick minutes, on the dot. I recall a day, not too long ago, when (my beloved) Clinic got ridiculed for their short (40-minute) sets but I guess as we enter the latter half of this decade, a brief quality show is more than sufficient. Perhaps our patience can't handle much more...
Most people this side of Atlantic have taken to calling the underaged (they seriously look 12!!) lads 'The Scottish Monkeys'. As instantly degrading as that may sound, I think it'd be fair to say that most people in attendance, those who loved or hated the set, would have a hard time NOT talking about 2006's Mercury Prize-winning Arctic Monkeys when discussing The View. The buzz, the 3-minute ditties, the heavy-as-all-hell accents. It makes sense.
The band's setlist highlighted their past, current and future singles, including but not limited to 'Superstar Tradesman', 'Same Jeans' and 'Wasted Little DJ's'. And it all sounded top-notch!
Will The View become the first success story of '07? It's hard to tell. Judging from the reception outside the venue, it's anybody's guess. Surely NME directed us incorrectly when they shit their pants over The Horrors (yikes!), yet The View have something immediately lovable about them that I can't quite put my finger on, just yet.
If you don't already have tickets for their sold-out show tomorrow night, I recommend giving them a go-'round their next time here, SURELY headlining one, or multiple nights @ The Bowery. Don't say we didn't warn you!

The View: The Next Big Thing Or More NME-Buzzed Crap?
The View have been making quite the name for themselves throughout 2006, thanks in part to some manic Brit buzz (what else is new?). With a handful of EPs under their belt, the band has been featured numerous times in NME and Q, and even had a supporting slot next to Babyshambles earlier this year. Musically, they sound like a punk version of the Kooks. That, combined with a heavily influenced Libertines sound (with an unusual love for ample harmonicas). With each band member under 20, I think it'd be fair to say that opening for Pete Doherty-fronted Babyshambles was probably a dream come true to the boys.
The Scots make their first (and only scheduled) stateside appearances @ Mercury Lounge on 1/2 and 1/3. See you there!
