Backing singer Ade Omotayo tells NME: *“It was absolutely ecstatic really, it was almost like a football atmosphere. Every time she won, it was like a goal. You could hear loud cheers. Another One Bites The Dust: Grammy And BAFTA Wrap Up

What did we all think of the Grammys last night? All in all, I actually thought it a rather decent show.

The Police opened with a remix of Roxanne which I thought sounded great though I was sort of a afraid the rest of the gang might get irritated at Sting for giving it a new spin.

Justin Timberlake playing the piano had me weak at the knees (was I supposed to know he played?) but that whole self-held camera thing was completely and utterly ridiculous looking not to mention, embarrassing.

The Dixie Chicks were resplendent with an outstanding performance and sweet acceptance speeches that rightfully included a little "nah nah." 'Not Ready to Make Nice' is a great song, go download it. I officially call them the Grammy Winner Winners of the evening.

Mary J accepting her first reward actually had me crying a bit along with her. But then the very long thanking of Jesus went a bit too far.

The whole John Mayer, John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae thing was a bit yawn, but at the same time, kinda nice and pretty (even though I'd love to sucker punch Mayer). And the Eagles medley was stretching it. I could just see everyone in the audience collectively thinking, "wait, I don't really like the Eagles...do I?"

Oh and Gnarls Barkely were of course classy, ironic and brilliant. Loved the remix rendition they performed.

Over on BBC America, they attempted to steal viewers by airing the BAFTAs on the same night. And I must admit, they had me. Late night talk show host Jonathan Ross, whom I simply adore, presided over the affair and Ricky Gervais joked at Ross's expense "at least the Americans actually know who Stephen Fry is." (um, Stephen Fry being the usual BAFTA host)

Actually, Ricky Gervais giving out the reward for best animated film was the best bit of the whole show. After opening the envelope to reveal the winner, he exclaimed "it's Helen Mirren again, you can't lick a stamp without hearing this woman's name!" The Queen won best film as well as earned Mirren the best actress award.

Alan Arkin won best supporting actor for Little Miss Sunshine and Abigail Breslin could be seen bouncing up and down in her seat with glee. Scarlett Johansson presented the award but since Arkin wasn't there, mumbled something quickly about how she'll take the award and give it to him. AWKWARD.

Best speech of the night goes to Guillermo del Toro whom won best film not in English for Pan's Labyrinth. It went something like "I don't speak English, thank you."

On question BAFTA, since you rent out the Albert Hall every year for the event, why not have a little music on? You had Kylie come out and present the best music award, why not have at least one person perform?

Golden age for KT!!

You chaps in the States have really taken to Fife's own KT Tunstall, haven't you? Given that I even heard her blaring out in Albuquerque while I was over there last month, I think that's a fair observation....

KT's been givin' some love to American Idol, following her nominations for this month's grammy awards...

One of the odder quirks in Tunstall's career has been that her songs have been embraced by U.S. TV producers even though she dislikes television, especially reality music ones.

"My status as a musician in America is pretty much cemented by Katharine McPhee, which is really interesting and funny for me because I've never been polite about how I feel about shows like that," she says.

Even so, Tunstall, 31, authorized McPhee to use her foot-stomping, woo-hoo-heavy "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" because she realized she'd be a fool to decline.

"When she sang that song, less than 1 percent of the population knew it. I was doing quite well but it was a totally underground song at the time. Then she does it. And it worked. I have people at my gigs going, 'I heard Katharine McPhee play your song and I love your album and your gig was amazing.' That's why you say yes."

Daniel Powter + Death Cab For Cutie: Together At Last!

Oh no! HITS is reporting that tomorrow the annual Grammy nominees album will make its way onto iTunes and into retail stores.

The album includes the hits from: Gnarls Barkley, Mary J. Blige, Corinne Bailey Rae, John Mayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justin Timberlake, Dixie Chicks, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera, KT Tunstall, James Blunt, Daniel Powter, Death Cab for Cutie, Black Eyed Peas, The Fray, Keane and more. I didn't even realize Death Cab was nominated for anything this year! Maybe the Grammy committee is trying to market this year's CD to a younger age bracket than years past. Who knows?

HITS also claims that: This year's compilation will come out via Sony BMG's Commercial Music Group, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale to benefit MusiCares Foundation and the Grammy Foundation.

Alright, that should count for something!

Err, I'm still not gonna be picking up this one anytime soon.

I know, why do we care?

Well, we don't.

Except for The Alternative Album Of The Year. The nominees are: Arctic Monkeys, The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley (also nominated for record of the year!), Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Thom Yorke. What do we think? In the past Radiohead has won every single nomination they've garnered in this category but I think Gnarls Barkley might just take it when push comes to shove. They've surely outsold their competition, tenfold.
